Property in Eastleigh - Housing in Eastleigh varies between low cost
housing association housing developments, and terraced period homes. Houses on
the edge of the town centre, that are closer to Eastleigh college and Barton
Peveril sixth form college are 1930's semi detached homes, offering large
family accommodation close to the amenities of the schools and colleges along
with Fleming Park leisure centre that has been renovated and is now a modern
and bright facility.
Buy to let properties have been a popular
investment choice in Eastleigh, due to the proximity of the Airport with its
ever expanding flight destinations, and where flights to Manchester can cost
less than £100. The ease with which one can travel to London has also been a
reason to buy investment houses in Eastleigh, along with the increase in house
prices in nearby Southampton and Romsey. This however has pushed prices up in
Eastleigh, and so new first time buyers, seeking affordable housing in the
Eastleigh areas have had to lower their expectations. The area of Bishopstoke
has always been popular, and although many parts of Bishopstoke cater for a
more elderly population, family housing is in demand here, due to the
closeness of schools such as Crestwood.
Travel and transport links -
Transport to Eastleigh is simple as it is just off the M27, and for the commuter

and a quarter from London Waterloo.
History -
Eastleigh has been linked to some people of note, namely Benny Hill the comic
actor who used to live in Eastleigh, and also, the Saints Southampton football
team, who used to train in Stoneham Ground. Businesses such as Fortis
insurance and B&Q have made Eastleigh their headquarters, and as such attract
a number of young professionals to the area to work in their call centre and
head office style offices. A large Asda also serves the surrounding population
with people travelling from Romsey, Southampton, Chandlers Ford, and Hamble
and Netley to shop at this Hypermarket. There are a number of pubs in the
centre of Eastleigh, however on the outskirts slightly, along Stoneham Lane is
The Concorde Club, a restaurant by day and a members only Jazz club by night,
with hotel attached.
